Pull Out Shelves, a Great Kitchen Improvement Option, on Display at the Home & Garden Show in Concord March 30 - April 1
Concord, CA (PRWeb) March 21, 2007 -- What's more inconvenient than stooping and reaching to find what's hidden in the back of your kitchen cabinet? These cabinets, the traditional type of storage in kitchens for the last hundred years, are finally changing with the times -- and an aging population. Welcome the advent of multiple drawers neatly closed behind cabinet doors now coming standard with many new kitchens. But for older kitchens, there is a solution -- the installation of pull-out shelves -- which will be on display at the upcoming Home & Garden Show in Concord from March 30 through April 1 at Booth #111.
Pull-Out Shelves, a business run by Bob Skelton of Pittsburg, is a system in which lower kitchen cabinets are stripped of their shelves and replaced by smooth-running wooden drawers. The drawers run on steel slides and can hold up to 100 pounds. "It's not something you think about, but when you swap drawers for shelves it can make that part of your life so much easier and more comfortable," says Skelton.
As baby-boomers age they are finding that back problems, knee and joint problems and other conditions make some aspects of daily life a bit harder. "My customers are enjoying the simple pleasure of working in the kitchen again once I give them a set of drawers," Skelton continues.
It is only in the last decade that kitchen cabinet designers recognized the value of lower cabinet drawers, eliminating dark and hard-to-reach shelves. For all those kitchens that have not been renovated there is an easy upgrade with the installation of pull-out shelves.
Skelton can do a whole kitchen in one to two days, keeping the dust, mess and inconvenience to a minimum. He will also replace cabinet doors if necessary. "I had drawers put in to my kitchen instead of the lower cabinet shelves and I couldn't be happier," says Louise Choquette of Crockett. "I was ready to renovate the whole kitchen, but when I found out I could remodel my cabinets and install drawers I was thrilled. I am able to put everything in my cabinets and still have a couple of empty cabinets left over. And I think I spent barely 10 percent of what it would have cost to remodel the kitchen."
